When Should You Move from One Embroidery Head to Two?

FUJA |

Consider two heads when repeat sewing is limiting orders you already have. First check what causes the delay. Extra heads will not solve slow artwork approval, garment sourcing or hoop preparation.

Track one normal working week

Record time spent preparing files, checking garments, hooping, sewing, changing jobs and packing finished orders. Note where work waits.

If the machine sits idle while you prepare items, improve preparation before buying more heads. If prepared batches wait for sewing, extra capacity may be worth comparing.

Separate repeat batches from mixed orders

Two heads can be useful when the same design runs on two items together. Ask how your chosen machine manages paired jobs, item placement and any unused head.

Mixed names or unrelated logos need a different comparison. Ask whether two independent machines would fit your scheduling better. Do not assume two heads can run any two unrelated files at the same time.

Compare total weekly work, not a speed claim

Use the same design and garment to compare the proposed setups. Include loading, stops, color changes and removing finished items.

Two heads do not guarantee double the finished orders or profit. File quality, operator time and order mix still matter. Ask for a demo that reflects your work.

Check the upgrade cost

Add the machine, delivery, workspace, extra hoops and preparation equipment. Allow for the time needed to learn the new setup. Keep enough cash for the supplies and garments that fill the larger batches.

FUJA machines other than FJ 1001 and the 15 needle FJ 1501CS ship from China. Before ordering more heads, request the exact configuration, DDP total and delivery estimate.

Make the decision with actual orders

  • Which confirmed orders are delayed by sewing time?
  • How often do both heads have matching work?
  • Can you prepare enough items without leaving the machine waiting?
  • Would a second independent machine serve mixed jobs better?
  • Can the expected extra work cover the upgrade costs without a promised sales forecast?

Questions Before You Buy

Should I upgrade because I have one large order?

Compare that order with your usual work and future confirmed demand. One large job alone may not justify changing the whole setup.

Is two heads always better than two machines?

No. Ask how each setup handles your mix of matching batches and separate jobs, as well as space, staffing and service.
