Supplies Guide

Right Backing for Every Fabric

Match backing to your fabric and design. Choose a fabric below to see a starting setup, then test it on spare material.

Embroidered names on shirts

Stretch Fabric Needs Support That Stays

Knits move under the needle. The backing has to stay behind the stitches and hold the fabric flat after washing

  • Backing Cut away backing that stays in place and keeps stretch fabric flat
  • Thread Polyester embroidery thread that holds color through washing
  • Hoops Small hoops for left chest logos and sleeves and spare hoops to prep the next piece
Embroidered bag with flat embroidery

Crisp Results With a Clean Finish

Woven shirts and bags hold their shape so the backing can leave with the job and keep the inside of the garment clean

  • Backing Tear away backing that removes easily after stitching
  • Thread Start with a basic color set and stock up on the colors customers ask for most
  • Hoops Large hoops for shirt backs and tote bags and magnetic frames for thick bags

Firm Support for Structured Fronts

Cap fronts are curved and stiff. The setup has to hold that curve steady from the first stitch to the last

  • Cap frames Hold the cap in place and spare frames speed up batches
  • Cap stand Fits the cap onto the frame quickly and evenly
